This is a seamless sweater knit in the round, starting from the neckline and working down.
Materials
- Yarn: Worsted weight (approx. 800-1,200 yards, depending on size).
- Needles:
US size 8 (5mm) circular needles (16” and 32” cables).
US size 6 (4mm) circular needles for ribbing.
- Notions:
Stitch markers (4 for raglan sections).
Yarn needle for weaving in ends.
Gauge
- 18 stitches and 24 rows = 4 inches in stockinette stitch.
Instructions
1. Cast On for Neckline
1. Use the smaller needles to cast on:
- Small: 80 stitches
- Medium: 88 stitches
- Large: 96 stitches
2. Join in the round and place a marker to indicate the beginning.
3. Work 1x1 ribbing (*knit 1, purl 1*) for 1.5 inches.
2. Begin Raglan Increases
1. Switch to larger needles.
2. Divide stitches for raglan:
- Place 1 marker after:
- Small: 16 (front), 12 (sleeve), 24 (back), 12 (sleeve), 16 (front).
- Medium: Adjust proportionally (e.g., add 2-4 stitches to front/back).
- Place markers to separate these sections.
3. Work as follows:
- Knit to 1 stitch before the marker, make 1 left (*M1L*), knit 1, slip marker, knit 1, make 1 right (*M1R*).
- Repeat this increase at each marker.
4. Repeat Increases:
- Continue increasing every other round until the sweater reaches your desired chest circumference.
3. Separate for Sleeves
1. Transfer sleeve stitches to waste yarn or stitch holders.
2. Continue knitting the body in the round until the desired length (try it on as you go).
3. Work 1x1 ribbing for 2 inches and bind off loosely.
4. Knit the Sleeves
1. Transfer stitches from waste yarn to smaller circular needles or double-pointed needles.
2. Pick up 2-4 stitches under the armhole to avoid gaps.
3. Knit the sleeve in the round, decreasing every few inches for tapering.
4. End with 1x1 ribbing and bind off.
5. Finish the Neckline
1. Pick up stitches around the neckline and knit 1x1 ribbing for about 1 inch.
2. Bind off loosely.
Final Steps
- Weave in Ends: Use a yarn needle to tidy up any loose strands.
- Block: Gently wet block to shape and smooth your sweater.
